The Horse Sanctuary is delighted to offer therapeutic riding opportunities for children and adults with physical or cognitive disabilities. Our gentle horses and caring volunteers offer a safe, inclusive and fun environment for riders of all ability levels. The many benefits of therapeutic riding include improved muscle strength, joint mobility, balance and co-ordination, an enhanced ability to focus, persevere and interact with others. An increase in confidence and self-esteem usually follows.
Our program can be tailored to many ability levels. Clients ride once per week for a minimum of 4 weeks. We have experience with a variety of conditions, including:
- Autism / Aspergers
- Down Syndrome
- Prader Willi Syndrome
- Cerebral Palsy
- Brain Injury
- ADD / ADHD
- Global Developmental Delay
- Spinal Cord Injury
Specially-developed programs for at-risk women and youth are available for individuals and groups, on a long- or short-term basis. Clients work with The Horse Sanctuary’s rescue and school horses, developing skills and confidence that transfer to many other areas of life. Programs can be tailored to specific requirements.
